RIO – Economist and Researcher Salomão Quadros of the Brazilian Institute of Economics of the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (IBRE / FGV) died Thursday afternoon. He had been hospitalized since the beginning of the year for complications related to bone marrow disease, myelodysplastic syndrome. He was 62 years old and had been working at the FGV for 39 years. The researcher was one of the main specialists of Brazilian price index responsible for the badysis of general price indices (PGI) and the coordination of several projects in the field of calculations and badyzes economic. The disease, which prevents the bone marrow from producing blood components, was discovered about two years ago. At the beginning of last year, Quadros underwent a bone marrow transplant in São Paulo. Back in Rio, he tried to resume the routine, but the weakening of the spinal cord eventually made him suffer from various opportunistic infections.

Aloísio Campelo, colleague of Ibre, recalls that in the book "Beyond Indexes: Chronicles, History and Inflation Lines" published in 2008, Quadros also explored his columnist side. "It went beyond the indexes, it had the ability to badyze the causes and consequences of price changes, to show the impact of different ways of measuring inflation on the indices," he summarizes. pointing out that even sick, he was keen to badyze clues and comment with reporters.

In a note, the FGV lamented the death of Quadros, one of the "most relevant names in macroeconomics". " For 15 years, Solomon focused on research and badysis of inflation, being responsible for the country's main economic indicators, such as IGP-M. He also wrote the book "Beyond the Clues: Chronicles, Stories and Inflation Lines," he said.

"Solomon was a very studious person with a great culture and was an excellent doctoral student, and you will miss his excellent friend and colleague," recalls André Braz, FGV IBRE's IPC coordinator.

The funeral will be held between 9 am and 11 am on Saturday, January 26 at the Celestial Pavilion of the Carmo Memorial in Rio de Janeiro.
