James Gunn negotiates to direct Suicide Squad's prosecution, for example on the Deadline, Hollywood Reporter and The Wrap sites. The news is not entirely new since Gunn was hired to write the script and was aiming to completely reshape the formula used in the super-group of villains.
The news is that Warner has set the date of August 6, 2021.
Still according to the three sites, the new production is not treated by Gunn as a direct sequence, but rather as a new positioning of the group in the DC universe. The new version of the band will have a whole new cast and will be a lot more funny – in the same vibe of Galaxy Guardians.

Warner had already commissioned a version of the suicide group's script for David Bar Katz (Freak) and Todd Stashwick ] (Gotham). Before them, the former director of the film, Gavin O. Connor was to sign another version of the script. All these previous versions were archived now that Gunn took full creative control of the film.
Squad Suicide 2 (we do not yet know if the film will bear this name) arrives in theaters on August 6, 2021.
