Director José Padilha was chosen to direct "Dead or Alive", a film about the history of jiu-jitsu for Netflix. The information comes from THR.
The international project will always have Padilha's own script alongside Peter Maguire.
After THR, the plot will focus on Mitsuyo Maeda and Rickson Gracie, two athletes of different generations who have helped to develop and popularize the mixed martial art that is known as jiu Brazilian jitsu.
Maeda was a kind of ambbadador of the battles that left Japan and arrived in Brazil in the early 20th century, meeting Carlos Gracie who eventually taught Jiu-Jitsu to his brothers. His nephew, Rickson Gracie, is a former champion who has been inducted into the MMA Hall of Fame.
