CARACAS – In an unprecedented attitude among the military of his patent, a Venezuelan general of the activist denied the legitimacy of Nicolás Maduro and recognized Juan Guaidó as interim president of Venezuela.
– I am Major General Francisco Esteban Yánez, Director of Strategic Planning of the High Military Command of Aviation, and I am writing to inform you that I do not know about the illegitimate and dictatorial authority of Nicolás Maduro and I recognize Juan Guaidó as acting president of Venezuela – says the army, in a video posted on Twitter this Saturday. – The people of Venezuela, 90% of Venezuela's armed forces are not with the dictator, they are with the people of Venezuela.
The Armed Forces are considered the main support of Maduro's power and one of the main elements to determine whether the internal and external pressure to which the agent is subjected will take effect. Venezuela has more than 600 generals whose public statements are rigorously controlled by the country's intelligence services.
It is thought that Maduro's dissatisfaction is high in lower patents, but little is known about the level of support that the current regime has among the highest patents. It is understood that many servicemen have advantages that they would fear losing in case of a change of regime.
Yánez, who appears in the video with two stars in uniform, is not the first general to defect, but the first to do so since Guaidó proclaimed himself the country's interim president.
