The market for new vehicles in Argentina began in 2019, a sharp decline. With 58,017 units sold in January, sales fell by more than 50% compared to the same month in 2018. Compared to the very bad month of December (26,980), however, the result has more than doubled.
After two consecutive months in the lead among car manufacturers, Renault (7,796) fell to third place, exceeded by VW (9,429) and Toyota (8,601). Fifth place, Chevrolet (5,798) recorded the largest loss in the last twelve months (-64.4%), while Honda (1,604), 10th, was the only one among the first to show growth (+ 2.2%). The highlight of the model ranking was Ecosport. 15th place in the previous month, the Ford SUV registered 1,873 units and gained 10 positions. Leader from September to November and bestseller in 2018, Toyota Hilux (3,001) has returned to the top. Even with a retirement already confirmed by VW for this first quarter, Suran continued to surprise. Favorite of the Argentines in December, the station has secured the second position, with 2,550 units, or 36% more than a year ago. Fifth in the previous standings, the Ford Ka (2,334) completed the podium with a slight advantage over the Toyota Etios (2,184). Just behind the Chevrolet Onix (1,728), the Cronos maintained as Fiat's bestseller. Testifying to the good reception of the vans of the neighboring country, VW Amarok (1,666) and Ford Ranger (1,556) ensured their presence in the top 10, the Peugeot 208 (1,568) separating the two. Conversely, the Toyota Yaris (1,318) has sold more than Fiat Argo (1,223) and VW Polo (1,011), which is very different from what is happening in Brazil.
