The Legislative Assembly of Rio de Janeiro (Alerj) elected on Saturday (2) the Presidential Council which will lead the work in the House during the biennium (2019-2020). She was elected the only confirmed candidate for the presidency of the badembly, chaired by MP André Ceciliano (PT).
Ceciliano was elected after 36 votes at 3:45 pm at the end of the vote. The final result got 49 votes in favor of the plate, 7 against and 8 abstentions.
The vote counted 64 deputies and six absent. All are currently in prison and were not sworn in on Friday. It will be up to the new board of directors to decide whether three deputies elected and detained may be sworn in or placed under house arrest.
Five of the absent parliamentarians were arrested as part of the Furna da Onça operation, deploying Lava Jato in RJ. These are: André Corrêa (DEM), Chiquinho da Mangueira (PSC), Luiz Martins (PDT), Marcos Abrahão (Avante) and Marcus Vinicius Neskau (PTB).
Anderson Alexandre (Solidarity), former mayor of Silva Jardim, arrested in November during a prosecution operation.
After the elections, Ceciliano spoke about the situation of detention of detainees. "I will try to organize a meeting with TRF2 on Monday and a meeting with the board of directors on Tuesday or Wednesday." Events in the galleries
On Saturday, protesters linked to the MBL protested in the galleries of Alerj against Ceciliano, claiming that his Election would be the continuation of Jorge Picciani (MDB), arrested as part of Operation Cadeia Velha and is now under house arrest. .
After the vote, in another gallery, PT activists celebrated with cries of "the champion has returned".
In his speech, Ceciliano promised to "save the image of parliament" in the face of the discredit of the population and declared that he respected the ideological differences in Alerj.
"This time, we have an even more dramatic situation in Rio, with a deficit of 8 billion, the death of police and the command of traffickers.Our role is not only to adopt laws, but also to inspect, strengthen the state's economy, to schools that teach, strong universities, we have to go further because society demands it, "he said.
