The vote in the Senate for the election of the President is repeated. At the polls, there were 82 ballots, but the House has only 81 senators. There were 80 tickets in envelopes and two other separate tickets. Facing the impbade, it was almost an hour of debate to decide what to do. Some Senators requested the cancellation of only two separate ballots, but the DROs nominated by the candidates chose to pick up the new ballot.

Senator Otto Alencar (PSD-BA), for his part, pointed out that the Bureau was responsible for the case, all ballots having been signed by the chair of the meeting, José Maranhão (MDB-PB), and by the secretary, Fernando Bezerra (MDB-PE). He suggested that the Bureau be amended so that two BMD senators would not be allowed to run because Renan Calheiros was a candidate.
