A vehicle loses control, leaves the road and lands in a mountainous region of Uttarakhand state, in the Himalayas, north of India
An accident caused at least 45 deaths on Sunday 1st in a mountainous region of northern India. A bus collapsed from a ravine and broke into two pieces.
The accident occurred in the Nanidhanda area, in the district of Pauri Garhwal, in the state of Uttarakhand, at 8:35 local time (00:35 Brasília time).
"The bus lost control, left the road and plunged into a deep valley.With the impact, the vehicle broke down in two parts and is now in a small river in the valley", said Deepesh Chandra Kala, local disaster manager.
The reasons for the accident are still studied.
The National Indian Disaster Response Force (NDRF) strives to badist pbadengers trapped in the wreckage.
The Chief Minister of the State of Uttarakhand requested a thorough investigation into the reason for the accident.
Road crashes in India are common because of poor road conditions, government data show that a person dies every four minutes due to poor road conditions. In April of this year, 24 children and three adults were killed when a school bus crashed on a road in the mountains of Himachal Pradesh.
About 1.2 million Indians were killed in road crashes between 2004 and 2014, while 5.5 million were seriously injured.
