David Esteves Barbosa, a 27-year-old businessman who was shot dead by criminals Tuesday night in Tijuca, in the Zona Norte del Rio, was convicted of counts of attempted crime stellage, falsified public documents and false identity. . In December 2009, he was arrested and released almost two years later, in September 2011.
David responded to two lawsuits. In one of the courts of the 17th Criminal Court of Rio, the businessman was sentenced on August 5, 2010 to four years and eight months imprisonment for attempted stellation crimes, falsification of public documents and false identity. Already in the other case, that of the 19th Criminal Court of Rio, David had been sentenced on April 8, 2012 to two years imprisonment for the crime of estelionato. In both cases, the businessman was accused of falsifying identity documents and cloned credit cards for renting cars at rental stations in the southern area of Rio.
The Crime
David, who was in a white Honda Civic, was approached shortly before 10 pm by at least eight criminals in three cars at Rua Gonçalves Crespo, at number 90 of Tijuca . More than 30 shots were fired at the vehicle, but the businessman managed to escape. David managed to drive to New Town, where he asked for help from the military police. He was taken to the Souza Aguiar Municipal Hospital in downtown Rio.
Military policemen were also on the scene where the criminals approached David and exchanged gunfire with the bandits. One of them, identified as Daniel Hansmiller Alves da Silva, was also taken to Souza Aguiar, but could not resist his injuries. He is appointed by the police as one of the chiefs of traffic in Morro do Turano, Tijuca.
In David's vehicle was found an Airsoft weapon, in addition to other personal items. The case is being investigated by the capital's homicide office.
