The Court of Justice of Minas Gerais (TJMG) on Monday demanded the ban of Nelson Hungria Penitentiary in Contagem, in the metropolitan area of Belo Horizonte. Judge Wagner Cavalieri of the 1st Municipal Court was arrested as a result of an injured during an escape attempt Sunday morning (23) and dozens of reported escapes to the penitentiary this year.
In his decision, Judge Wagner Cavalieri states that Nelson Hungary can accommodate a maximum of 1,640 detainees. Currently, however, the prison is overcrowded with 2,300 prisoners. In addition, the court's decision determined that the penitentiary would have 600 prisoners, instead of the 540 currently badigned to the safety of prisoners.
In April, Nelson Hungary was partially banned at the request of the Union of Agents. (Sindasp), limiting the maximum number of prisoners to 2,000. According to Judge Wagner Cavalieri, since the partial ban, the penitentiary security system has not been improved.

In total, more than 30 detainees fled Nelson Hungary this year alone. From dawn Sunday 23 to Monday 24, a prisoner was injured while he was trying to escape the penitentiary with the help of a rope.
