Aeromexico pbadenger jet pilots had begun landing maneuvers on one of the runways at Tijuana Airport in northern Mexico. The day was clear and visibility was excellent.
But suddenly, they felt a strong impact on the nose of the aircraft, so powerful that the fuselage and weather radar were severely damaged by the shock.
