Filipe Duarte Cerqueira, 5, died in a private hospital in Palmas with suspicion of dengue haemorrhagic fever. The patient, who had been hospitalized with the symptoms of the disease, died Thursday (3). The information has been confirmed by the municipal health service, which monitors the case.

Filipe's father stated that the boy had been admitted to hospital last Wednesday (2), but that he was already undergoing treatment before his hospitalization. He had West syndrome, a rare type of epilepsy. Filipe would finish 6 years next Saturday (12).

The family reported that the body of the child was veiled in Miracema do Tocantins and that he would be buried in a cemetery in Dianópolis.

The health department of Tocantins reported that in 2010, 10 cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever had been reported, but no deaths had been confirmed.

The secretariat also reported that in early December of last year, 1,536 cases of common dengue fever had been confirmed. This number is 58% lower than the number of people with the disease during the same period in 2017.
