A suspicious case of bubonic plague is the subject of an investigation in São Gonçalo

After about 30 years without registering a case of bubonic plague in the state, Rio from January investigates a suspected illness in São Gonçalo, Greater Rio. The management of Luiz Palmier Municipal Hospital, where the victim is hospitalized, confirmed the suspicion at the fifth (10).

According to a statement issued by the São Gonçalo Municipal Health Department, the patient does not have the characteristic clinical features of the disease. However, the municipality has identified the bacterium responsible for bubonic plague during a preliminary examination.

According to the note, the material collected during the examination was sent to the central laboratory of Noel Nutels (Lacen) for it to carry out a new evaluation. , as well as by the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz). The test results will arrive in the coming days, according to the São Gonçalo Health Department.

Under-Secretary of State for Health Surveillance, Alexander Chieppe, points out that the early treatment of bubonic plague is very high. "The protocol for the treatment of plague was launched, which is not complicated, it is only the use of antibiotics."

Chieppe states that there is no risk of spread or outbreak. According to him, it is a disease already controlled throughout the country. "We are going to treat this case very carefully.It may be just a suspect."

Bubonic plague, also known as black plague, is a disease transmitted by a bacterium present in rodents.The contamination is by fleas that sting infected animal, then humans.The last case recorded in Brazil was in the state of Ceará in 2005.
