According to the neurologist Fábio Porto, of the Hospital das Clínicas de São Paulo, the stroke type of Arlindo Cruz is more rare, with ischemic stroke – when the blood supply is insufficient in because of the clogging of the vessel – the most common.

In the case of a hemorrhagic stroke, the blood leaves the vessel and goes directly to the brain by rupture in the artery, pressing the site and affecting the activity of the brain, which can be speech, memory, motor activities and vision

The damage caused by brain damage depends on the amount of blood and the area affected. "Each case is special, sometimes the injury is small, but the injured site causes great impact," says the neurologist.

With rehabilitation, the brain is able to adapt and recover the activities that have been affected, what is called neuroplasticity.
