The flights from Rome Ciampino airport had to be temporarily suspended after the discovery of three World War II bombs during runway maintenance work, according to Sky News.

The bombs totaled 150 kilos and were removed by experts from the Italian army, announced the Ministry of Defense.

The flights that were to land in Ciampino were diverted to the main airport of Fiumicino, the Italian capital. Air traffic in Ciampino was suspended for several hours and the airport had to be evacuated.

The Italian authorities report that in the meantime air traffic in Ciampino is already operating normally.
