Currently, Amazonas has 10,768 sites registered in the Malaria Epidemiological Surveillance System of the Ministry of Health, of which 4,487 have active transmission of the disease. The state is considered the greatest risk of disease transmission in Brazil, which is concentrated mainly in riparian and indigenous areas.
As information, the State Department of Health (Susam) reported that in addition to Alto Rio Negro, 13 other municipalities are among the priorities in the fight actions against malaria, including the capital.
