RIO – An explosion at the TBT House restaurant in the Rio Sul shopping center in Botafogo, south of Rio, on Saturday afternoon, left four people injured, according to the fire department. Among the victims are two foreigners.
The restaurant is located in a busy corner of the mall, across the street from Mc Donald's fast food outlet. According to the regulars who saw the explosion, the fire is declared in the heating equipment of the buffet of the establishment serving the paella.
There is still no information on the state of health of the victims. Three of them were taken to the Miguel Couto Municipal Hospital in Gávea, with burns, according to firefighters, who provided first aid. According to the military, one of them was treated on the spot to have fallen at the time of the explosion.
According to a hospital official, who refused to identify, the injuries were a little more complicated in the foreign couple. The man is burned to the neck and to certain parts of the face. She had burns, apparently second degree, in the stomach, waist, back and parts of the leg. Both remain repaired in the unit.
During the fright, traders came to think that it was a burglary in a mall. Some stores have closed the doors until the fact is clarified.
Rio Sul shopping, through the intermediary of its press service, published a note on what happened:
"Three clients of RIOSUL SHOPPING were victims of an accident Saturday afternoon at TBT restaurant.
Clients received immediate support from venture capital teams. The people involved were referred to Miguel Couto Hospital. The TBT restaurant is currently closed.
