Avianca Brazil loses at least a third of its fleet of aircraft

The tragedy experienced by the airline Avianca Brazil has won more serious chapters in recent hours. The company which was to file a petition for judicial recovery in December sought to prevent its creditors from restoring leased airplanes to prevent the cancellation of flights, but there is every reason to believe that this negotiation would not have its fruits. On Thursday, the company confirmed that would close its major international flights from São Paulo to New York, Miami and Santiago de Chile on March 31 and return four of the five Airbus A330-200s. rented and used on these roads. Foreign investment was something recent in the company which announced its first flights in the middle of 2017 . Less than a year ago, the company decided to launch a second daily flight to Miami which implied that the flights were well accepted.

Only flights between Fortaleza and Salvador bound for Bogotá will remain active. with Avianca Colombia who, although belonging to the same group, has no direct link with Brazilian society.

The worst news, however, was revealed at the end of the day by the ANAC. According to the Civil Aviation Agency, 10 Airbus A320 (most of them from the Neo model) owned by the leasing company GECAS will lose the Brazilian registry, which prevents them from being used by Avianca.

Thus, Avianca Brasil will lose no less than 14 out of 51 aircraft, almost a third of its fleet. The company will return three more A320s in the coming days, two of which will be transferred to competitor Blue .

Until then, the Brazilian company had been able to avoid many cancellations of flights and even deactivated planes. are now used more frequently than the Airbus A318 which still carry the old paint of the company.

It now seems inevitable that the airline will cancel a large part of the flights, which will affect its revenues and, consequently, worsen the financial framework.
