Farah has been the scene of violent conflict in recent months with the local government and tribal elders in Afghanistan.
In May, about 300 Taliban fighters launched a multi-pronged attack on Farah, killing at least 25 elements of the army. The latest UN report shows that the number of civilians killed in Afghanistan during the first half of the year has increased by 1% compared to the same period of 2017, with 1,692 violent deaths.
