Brazil lost 9 positions and ranked 105th in the 2018 list of least corrupt countries by Transparency International and published Tuesday (29). The global study badessed perceptions of public sector corruption in 180 countries.
The better the ranking, the less corrupt the country is. Brazil has been falling in the Corruption Perception Index (CPI) since 2014 and the result is the worst since 2012. Last year, the country was in 96th place. In 2016, Brazil was 79th.
According to Transparency International, Brazil's score also deteriorated from 37 to 35.
In the standings of 2018, Brazil was tied with Armenia, El Salvador, Peru, the United States and Brazil. East Timor, among others.
Denmark leads the standings with 88 points. Of the top ten countries, seven are European countries. Canada is the only representative of the Americas in the top 10.
The CPI ranks and ranks countries according to the perception of public sector corruption by experts and business executives. It addresses issues such as bribery, the misuse of public resources, excessive bureaucracy, nepotism and the ability of governments to contain corruption.
Countries receive scores ranging from 0 to 100 – 0, which corresponds to a high degree of perception of corruption and 100 to a high degree of perception of integrity in the public sector.
