Brazilian scientists have developed an anti-inflammatory dressing combining a pineapple protein – bromelain – cellulose produced by bacteria (bacterial nanocellulose). The study was published in the journal Nature & # 39; s Scientific Reports

In order to achieve the result of the anti-inflammatory dressing, laboratory tests were carried out, submerging, for 24 hours, membranes of bacterial nanocellulose in bromelain solution. With this, a nine-fold increase in the antimicrobial activity of nanocellulose could be noted. In addition, a barrier has been created that has potentiated the activity of proteins and other important mechanisms for healing, such as the increase of antioxidants.
