Statement by Governor Camilo Santana
Message from Governor Camilo Santana to the Cearense people.
At a time when the State of Ceara is facing criminal acts, I reiterate that all Ceará security forces (military police, civilian police, firefighters, prison guards and Pefoce) are permanently in power . to stop these actions, stop the thugs and protect our population.
The reinforced security regime will be maintained, and even strengthened, as long as necessary to ensure order and put behind all those who attack society.
I have absolute confidence in the more than 29,000 Ceará professionals who train the security forces of our state and who have stood out night and day to fight crime, especially at a time when State of Ceará takes tough and necessary steps for: organized crime, both inside and outside prisons.
This is precisely the reason for these criminal acts: to force the state to withdraw from these energetic measures, which is impossible. On the contrary: we will be hardened more and more against crime.
We have created a special secretariat for rigorous action in all prisons, acting firmly in accordance with the law and showing that the command is exercised by the state.
We have strengthened our security system by hiring nearly 10,000 professionals over the last four years and I have called 600 others yesterday to act immediately. And I already inform that I will call more professionals in the coming months.
We buy new and modern equipment, more than 2,100 vehicles, we invest in technology and intelligence, we build new prisons and others are under construction, including maximum security. And with planning and strategy, we are starting to impose more rigor in the fight against crime.
We were able to bring to Ceará the first integrated intelligence center in the country, which already collaborates with us.
Since the beginning of these criminal actions three days ago, I have met the entire summit of public security and taken the necessary, harsh and necessary measures.
To date, 86 people have already been arrested for involvement in these acts, only 36 last night. And several actions were avoided with the intelligence work and anticipation of the police.
Moreover, from the very first hours of the attacks, I spoke constantly with the Minister of Justice and Security, Sérgio Moro, who has given very important support at the present time, as well as with the Minister of Defense, General Fernando Azevedo. .
As I have always argued, the fight against organized crime must be conducted in a cooperative manner between states and the federal government. The role of all is to protect the population, leaving aside vanities and personal or partisan interests.
Public men must be above all that. The well-being of the people of Ceará will always be at the base and I will fight with all my strength for that.
I take this opportunity to welcome the officers of the National Security Force and the federal troops who began arriving in Ceará yesterday to help our police participate in this confrontation. Work must always be cooperation between the state and the federal security forces, both of whom are responsible for protecting the citizen.
The moment is more than ever the union of all forces. Governments, the legislature, the judiciary, the prosecution, the ATO and the entire civil society.
I will always be at the side of the people of Ceará, who are suffering today from these criminal acts, but who will have, with the strength and persistence of the state in the fight against crime, a Ceará safer for their families.
This is my commitment as governor of all Cearenses.
I'm going to be tough on crime.
