The threat of "rebound" Beijing if it decided to ban the Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei to use 5G technology.
"We make it clear that we will not compromise national security, we will conduct the appropriate badysis and make the decision that we ultimately consider in Canada's best interests," said the Minister of Public Safety , Ralph Goodale.
Ottawa and Beijing have had diplomatic relations since early December with the arrest in Canada of Huawei's chief financial officer, Meng Wanzhou, at the request of the United States.
Goodale also said that Justin Trudeau's government "will not be deterred" by China's threats to ban the use of 5G.
On Thursday, Chinese Ambbadador to Ottawa Lu Shaye warned of possible "repercussions" if Canada made this decision.
The Canadian Minister said that his country continued to evaluate 5G technology. "We are looking at security issues and techniques very carefully," he said.
He also noted that China had made the same threats in Australia, for example, before joining New Zealand and the United States to ban Huawei's equipment because of alleged links with the services Chinese secrets.
