HEALTH
In just one year, the number of reported cases has increased by more than 80%.
Campo Grande is the victim of an epidemic of syphilis. Transmitted from one infected person to another, especially during unprotected bad, the disease reached 3,312 people in the capital last year alone and is already considered an epidemic. The data come from the Municipal Secretariat for Public Health (Sesau) and also show that between 2017 and 2018, the number of diagnosed cases increased by 88.50%.
According to the TSI of Sesau / Denise Leite Lima, the main reason for the increase in the number of cases is the lack of prevention. The most affected are young people aged 15 to 34 and the elderly, who are the age group in which the incidence of the disease has increased the most. "In reality, people do not warn, they do not use condoms in their relationships." The correct use of condoms is essential in all relationships, but young and older populations struggle to understand what is happening. young people because they have not yet dealt with the risks of unprotected bad and the elderly because of cultural problems, often badist. "
However, the transmission of the disease not only occurs in unprotected bad. Syphilis is infectious, caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum. It is also transmitted by transfusion of blood or an infected mother to the baby during pregnancy or childbirth. In Campo Grande, the number of pregnant women cases has increased by 20%.
"The pregnant woman worries us a lot because if she is not cared for early in the pregnancy, she pbades from mother to child. Therefore, our orientation is that the woman who already knows that she is pregnant should look for a health facility and start treatment, because if syphilis is not treated, the baby may be born with a malformation and may result in an abortion, "he says.
This is the case of a baby of only seven days, admitted to the Cândido Mariano Maternidade. The child was born with the disease because the mother, who is an addict, did not regularly attend prenatal care. "Many infants spend ten days in the hospital receiving injections to cure the disease, which is very painful, so it is important for the mother to request a quick test as soon as possible to find a cure. pregnancy and continue prevention and treatment until the end of pregnancy, "says Lima.
During gestation, the test should be performed during the first prenatal visit, the third trimester of pregnancy and the time of delivery (regardless of previous examinations).
SYMPTOMS
Syphilis can occur in three stages and the main symptoms occur during pregnancy. the first two phases of the disease, when it is the most contagious.
The first symptom is a wound that does not bleed and does not hurt, which occurs after direct contact with the sore of another person's syphilis. This sore may take 3 to 12 weeks to appear and, when it is rubbed, releases a clear fluid.
The wound tends to disappear on its own, without treatment, but this does not mean that the disease has been cured, but on the contrary for the second phase of syphilis, when the lesion will occur in the skin and in the organs internal, the bacterium is already spread throughout the body.
The third phase may not show symptoms and thus give a false impression of healing.
DIAGNOSIS
The syphilis test is available in the general population in all basic health units and family health units, in addition to the support center. Alcohol and Psychosocial Drugs (Caps) and the Screening and Counseling Center (CTA), in addition to hospitals. Sesau also has a mobile unit, which runs through parties, bars, squares and other busy places.
