(Thomson Reuters Foundation) – The indignation of men's abusing women's affairs in the streets of Paris and London sparked calls for more effective actions to change these attitudes as France prepares to approve a law to punish badual harbadment in public with fines.

In a viralized security camera video on the internet, a man can be seen slapping the face of 22-year-old Marie Laguerre, next to a busy cafe in the French capital, after rejecting her advances.

"Because I reacted to your harbadment, a man beat me publicly in the street in broad daylight, in front of dozens of witnesses, unacceptable, stop the harbadment in the streets," writes Marie Laguerre on Twitter.

Worldwide, one in three women and girls experience physical or badual violence, according to UN estimates.

The Paris attack took place after a man left an unconscious young woman outside a nightclub on Saturday morning at Gloves Hill, near London .

France announced a series of measures against badual badault in March, including fines of 90 euros for badual harbadment on the streets and setting longer deadlines for rape prosecutions.

"Since women started sharing their stories of #MeToo, it has become clear that women are the predominant victims of badual violence around the world," said Rachel Krys, co-director of the Ending Violence group. Against Women.

"But we need more than a change in the law – we need a cultural change, and more provisions and advice for victims of badual violence," he said. told the Thomson Reuters Foundation
