The National Congress authorized Tuesday (12) the release of $ 100 million from this year's budget for the purchase of a vessel to be operated in Antarctica. The text goes to the presidential sanction.

The request was made by the federal government to Congress in October of this year. The proposal opens a special credit for Emgepron (naval project management company), a public company linked to the Ministry of Defense.

With this appeal, the Government indicates that the purchase of the Antarctic Support Vessel will be made in lieu of the vessel.

The idea of this project is to support research and logistical support for the EACF (Antártica Comandante Ferraz metro station), part of the Brazilian Antarctic Program

. the equipment will contribute to the construction of the new EACF destroyed during a fire in 2012.

"The credit aims to fully meet the logistical needs arising from the construction of the new EACF, in addition to reducing the time needed for these activities, which will increase research in the Antarctic region, "explained the government.
