Dell may be working on a new type of notebook with a removable display allowing the use of multiple screens at once. The idea is part of a patent filed by the PC manufacturer in June 2017, but was only approved last week. If the concept becomes reality, the manufacturer could offer more versatile notebooks, attractive to those who need more work space on the computer.

The document describes a notebook that lets you connect a screen to the keyboard to use the conventional format device, in the same style as the Microsoft Surface Book. However, the difference between Dell would be the ability to use a second screen on the same basis. With such a feature, the manufacturer may end up on the periphery of competitors like Apple and its MacBook, for example.

A screen with these features would be possible thanks to the screens, which can be used independently or with a base that also serves keyboard. As in the Surface Book, the fixing of the screens would be done by a magnetic mechanism. The ability to simultaneously use the dual-screen notebook could boost the productivity of professionals such as developers and designers.
In addition to increasing the usable area with a second independent screen, the Dell patent describes yet another use scenario. The user can set one of the screens in the traditional position, the second being intended for an audience, useful during presentations, meetings and courses. It is important to remember that, like all patents, the document only records the idea. This does not mean that such a laptop will be released by the brand in the future.
