Department of Health confirms 41 new cases of flu with one death in Rio Preto | São José do Rio Preto and Araçatuba

According to the Secretariat's statement, this year 333 notifications, 81 confirmations for influenza, 241 cases scrapped, and 11 under investigation were counted this year.

Of the 81 confirmed cases, 64 are cases of influenza A H1N1, 14 of influenza A H3N2 and two cases of influenza B. There is still a confirmed case of influenza A, not subtyped.

Of the 11 deaths attributable to influenza, eight were attributable to influenza A (H1N1), two to influenza A (H3N2) and one to influenza A (unsubtyped). In 81.9% of cases, the patient was at risk of complications.

Influenza immunization coverage in Rio Preto reached 94.11% for priority groups of health professionals, the elderly, pregnant women, children under 5, women puerperals and teachers. The index is equivalent to 100,500 immunized people.

The flu vaccination campaign ended on June 22, but will be held in Rio Preto until the end of the dose stock. After the campaign, the Ministry of Health included in the immunization strategy children aged 5 to 9 years and adults aged 50 to 59 years.

Influenza – H1N1 and H3N2 or Influenza B – presents with symptoms such as high and sudden fever, cough, sore throat, muscle aches, joint pain and headache. In the case of H1N1, a symptom that comes out is lack of air and excessive fatigue.

It is important to distinguish cold flu, which is much milder, with less severe symptoms such as colds, discomfort, headaches and low fever.

Treatment should involve proper hydration, rest and use of the specific antiviral prescribed by the doctor. It is important that the patient is able to take the medication within 48 hours of the onset of symptoms, so that the effectiveness is greater. The treatment may also involve the use of painkillers to relieve symptoms.
