Desmond Boylan, a photographer who covered war and conflict around the world, before devoting his life to documenting the daily life in Cuba of the Associated Press died suddenly on Saturday afternoon in Havana . He was 54 years old.
Boylan was covering preparations for the New Year holidays in downtown Havana when he felt ill and asked a local family if he could rest on his couch where he had died. The Cuban authorities are conducting an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Born in Ireland in 1964, Boylan settled in Spain and began working as a photographer for the Associated Press in 1989.
He was then hired by Reuters, where he covered the conflicts at the end of the year. Apartheid in Africa. from South; the invasion of Iraq by the United States; and the war in the former Yugoslavia. He was known as a photographer capable of moving smoothly from thorny conflicts to sporting events.
We will also remember Sunday for his generosity with his colleagues, his willingness to share tips and advice with other photographers, regardless of their level of experience and their results.
