Although improved, Vanya was not able to withstand the flu and died 19 months after the death. People were still trying to get a fund to pay for the boy's trip to Madrid, Spain, where he would move on to a new phase of recovery.
The case has had a great repercussion in Russia, knowing that Vanya's mother has visited the child only twice since the tragedy. She always justified herself by saying that she felt guilty about the fact that her son had suffered heavy after-effects.
