Luiz Hamada, 36, has already become a joke with friends. He does not understand the memes that pump and release gossip from his social circle. The reason is that he has abandoned social networks, especially Facebook.
The release took place between 2009 and 2010, the year Orkut still held the throne of Brazil's most popular social network – which only changed in 2011 with the development of Mark Zuckerberg's network. .
"I am free from unnecessary discussions, such as those that took place during the elections," he said.

Luiz says that he has begun to prioritize experiences and encounters in the real world and that friendships in social networks have a superficial atmosphere.

In fact, Luiz was not the only one to perceive the elections as a bad time to be on social networks. For some, the electoral process was the last point within the services.
"The demand for sharing and participating in the discussions required a sort of virtual militancy that took me out of face-to-face meetings and hindered my work," says Marlyvan Alencar, 54, professor of advertising and journalism at the PUC -SP.
She deleted profiles on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter shortly after the elections. Away from the nets, she says that she can produce more, study harder to find more friends.
Despite this, the number of Facebook in Brazil remains high. Last July, the company had revealed that it had 125 million users in the country, a growth of 25% over 2016, the last time the data had been revealed.
Another common point between people who have left Facebook is not to see the WhatsApp, which belongs to Zuckerberg, as a social network. Both are still part of the courier service that has 120 million users in Brazil. They say that it is important for communication.
This does not mean, however, that the application is not hindered. "There are hours that take away patience," says Hamada.
