(Bloomberg) – MacKenzie Bezos's divorce from Amazon's founder, Jeff Bezos, could make her the richest woman in the world.
Françoise Bettencourt Meyers, granddaughter of cosmetic manufacturer L'Oreal, is the richest woman in the world, with a net worth of $ 45.6 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, a ranking
Neither the Bezos nor Amazon commented on the possible division of the couple's badets, including a 16% stake in the company. But if there is no agreement to the contrary, their wealth will almost certainly be divided equally, according to Karin Lundell, a partner with the law firm Rower in New York.
At $ 137.2 billion, Jeff is the largest wealthier in the world, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index; a 50/50 split would make MacKenzie, a writer, the richest woman with about $ 69 billion. But even if she received only 1% of the fortune, she would still enter the billionaire's club.
Most of the 66 women listed on the Bloomberg index had their wealth in case of death or divorce. In the list, there are only six women who made their own fortune against 313 men.
The Bezos announced the break Wednesday in a tweet signed by both spouses.
