The World Health Organization (WHO) and the Ministry of Health of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have released a new evaluation of Ebola virus infections. Between December 26, 2018 and January 15 of this year, 79 cases were reported in 11 regions of the African country. The most affected is Katwa, with 36 records. Manguredjipa, who until now had not been reached, presented a suspicion.

According to health authorities, "the epidemic continues in several geographically dispersed areas". Since last April, 663 cases have been reported – 614 confirmed and 49 probable. 407 people were killed and 237 were released.

Since the last WHO alert, suspicious investigations have been conducted in various provinces of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda and Rwanda. The organization still estimates that the overall risk of the outbreak is low. The risk of national and regional dissemination is, however, considered too high.

WHO urges provinces and neighboring countries to improve their surveillance and prevention strategies. For the moment, there are no restrictions on travel and trade in relation to the DRC. There is no licensed vaccine available against the Ebola virus.
