Experts investigating the fire that killed 10 athletes at the Flamengo training center, the Urubu nest, want to know if there was polyurethane in the container structure. Polyurethane is the same material – highly flammable – used in the Kiss nightclub, which caught fire in 2013, killing 242 people and injuring nearly 700 people.
The experts who were working this Saturday (9) at the training center focused on the material used to finish the containers in the interior. Jornal Nacional, a source heard, reported that experts had found foam on some of the panels, installed as if it were walls.
On its website, NHJ, a company that has installed the containers in Urubu's nest, indicates that it uses injected polyurethane in the middle of panels that, according to the company, are made of sheet steel from two sides. Until Saturday night (9), however, the company did not respond if the module that caught fire was like that.
Polyurethane is a mixture of chemicals that become rigid foam after application, thus preventing the pbadage of noise and heat.
