The first stage of the internationalization work at the Leite Lopes airport, in Ribeirão Preto (SP), was completed on Saturday (26), four months before the initial forecast, according to the municipal Council.
The project cost $ 3.9 million and consisted of setting up turnaround areas in springs 18 and 36, installing flower beds on aircraft taxiways and reinforcing them for access to the yard.
Work began last September and the winner of the contract, Talude Construções, had eight months to complete this project.
At present, City Hall is expected to launch a tender in February for the construction of the viaduct between Brasil Avenue and Thomaz Alberto Whately. The latter integrates the north-south corridor of the urban mobility project.
In a note, the administration also indicated that she had also resurfaced the avenues around the airport: Recife, Luís Augusto Gomes de Matos, Carlos Drummond de Andrade, June 19, Milton Tapajós Roselino and Orestes Lopes from Camargo.
The rest of the work, which includes the extensions of the pbadenger terminal and the aircraft terminal, as well as the fire department, should be carried out with the resources of the National Secretariat of Civil Aviation, without a deadline.
In operation since 1939, Leite Lopes operates full time with pbadenger and cargo flights, but still can not receive international flights and is waiting the improvements promised for at least six years.

The expansion of Leite Lopes had, in July 2011, a larger project with a budget of 256 million pesos, but which did not prosper due to dead ends such as environmental licenses. The nomination was scheduled for 2015, postponed to the following year and would no longer be removed from the role.
In September of last year, the airport was excluded from the list of priority investments of the federal government in regional aviation, but was reinstated with a guarantee of approximately R $ 80 million, due to lower costs. original design.
