We periodically publish leaks of personal data that could compromise millions of users. This year was the second most important in history, affecting 800 million people. That's why the company has announced a new add-on for its Chorme browser, able to check the site's credentials against known pbadword violations.
The extension is calling Pbadword Checkup and is available from today. Automatically and securely, the add-on verifies the credentials used to connect to websites, whether entered or stored manually in Chrome's pbadword manager, by report to hashed identification information stored in an encrypted database containing billions of compromised accounts held by Google.

According to Elie Bursztein's software, Google's anti-abuse researcher, the protocol behind the service is presented as a standard for account security and the interface can be proposed to the Future as an open application.
Pbadword verification for G Suite users has been around for some time, but offering the same credentials to other users is an even more challenging task. Pbadword Checkup uses a combination of anonymity and encryption to protect the login against a technique called Blindness to create a secret search index. The credentials are anonymized with an Argon2 hash function to create a search key for the Google database and encrypted using Elliptic Curve encryption.
The application contains a master database with selected pbadwords in the markets. At present, terabytes of data covering more than 4 billion pieces of information that have been violated are constantly updated by the Threat Threat Research Team. Google.
This database could be a valuable resource for teams tracking corporate threats and looking for essential tips for compromising third party accounts. However, Google's goal, in the words of the security officer, is to reach users in a transparent and easy-to-use way.
