The Epic Games creator of Fortnite drew attention this year by launching his game outside the Play Store. The company announced that it would go even further: in 2019, the company would launch its own game store on Android.
In addition to competing with Play Store in Google's operating system, the store will also be released for computers and will directly use Steam, which currently dominates the gaming market computer.
The main objective of the new store is to give more room to developers and offer better monetization conditions for the game. Steam and the Play Store both generate at less than 30% of the total profits of the games sold on the platforms.
In Epic Games Store, the distribution of profits will be different: the developers will get 88% of the money, the store owner will have 12% of the income generated by the sale. The benefits will be even greater for developers of Unreal Engine 4 applications, because the company will no longer charge the 5% royalties of its graphics engine when the game will be released on the new platform.
In addition to offering developer price benefits, the Epic Games store will also feature features such as an update feed, creators to connect to the community and a connection to digital influencers.
Epic Games has not yet announced the launch of its store, but will bring more information on the novelty of tomorrow, the 6th, during the Game Awards.
