SÃO PAULO – A partnership between Itaú Unibanco and Google allowed customers with Itaú, Credicard or Itaucard credit cards (Visa or Mastercard) to make payments via the Google Play service, available for android smartphones.

The technology makes it possible to perform transactions in physical stores only by bringing the smartphone closer to the machine, without using a physical credit card. The service can also be used for Internet purchases.

The card information is stored and encrypted in the application and is validated at the time of purchase, via the customer's fingerprint or pbadword. In addition, the physical data of the cards are not transmitted to the merchants during the payment, which increases the security.

According to Felipe Cunha, head of Google Pay partnerships for Latin America, "it is only the beginning of a partnership with Itaú that will bring many innovations to Brazilians." According to the bank, the service will soon also work for additional cards and debit cards.

Multiple holders (debit and credit cards) can also use the application, but only in the credit function.

Used from this Friday (1). To do this, simply follow the steps below:

  1. Download and open the Google Pay app;
    2. Click on "Payment" and then on "Method of payment";
    3. Take a picture of the card or enter the information manually;
    4. Follow the instructions to verify the identity;
    5. Finally, the customer must validate his card in the application of his preference (Itaú, Credicard, Itaú Personality or Itaucard), confirming the release of the service with security.
