The municipality of Guarani, in the Zona da Mata, recorded the third highest incidence of probable dengue cases in Minas Gerais. The city, which belongs to the regional health unit of Ubá, registered 751.63, ranked as a very high incidence rate.
The updated data appear in the Epidemiological Bulletin on surveillance of dengue, Zika and Chikungunya cases, published Monday by the Department of Health of the State of Minas Gerais (SES-MG) (14) .
The cities of Mirabela, north of Minas Gerais, and Arcos, in west-central Minas Gerais, recorded higher rates than those of Guarani in MG, which respectively reached 1,158.39 and 894.23.
Another municipality that is part of the Ubá Regional Health Unit and that is included in the SES-MG alert ranking is that of Barão de Monte Alto, which has recorded an index of 106.23. Although it appears in the rankings highlighted by the state, the value is considered a low incidence.
The value stratification used by SES-MG contributes to the evaluation, planning and direction of vector control measures and health surveillance actions.
- Low incidence: less than 100 probable cases per 100,000 population
- Mean incidence: 100 to 299 probable cases per 100,000 population
- High incidence: 300 to 499 cases
According to the State Bulletin, the incidence rate estimates the risk of dengue occurrence in a given population at intervals also determined and the population at risk of contracting the disease.
According to the SES-MG bulletin, in 2019, Minas Gerais recorded 1,571 probable cases (confirmed + suspected cases) of dengue fever. To date, there are three deaths in research for the disease.
Regarding fever in Chikungunya, 17 probable cases of the disease were recorded in the state and two deaths were the subject of an investigation. As far as Zika is concerned, six probable cases of the disease were recorded in 2019.
