Researchers have discovered that new malware is triggered by a Twitter post. The company Trend Micro showed Monday (17) the operation of the program, malware can take impressions from the screen of the user and send them to a server.
The researchers discovered that there are two memes masking commands. which can affect your computer. The photo message hides the / print command, which allows you to take a picture of the screen of the infected device. The program then directs you to a message in which is the address to which to send the screenshots.
The company also believes that other orders can be executed by the same system. Among them, the "/ process", which displays the list of programs running on the device; "/ Clip", which takes what is in the clipboard of the user;
This malware was apparently on the social network since October, when researchers saw the article appear on Pastebin, used by hackers to shorten links leading to orders, (19659006) up to Now, according to the survey, it was not possible to know where the malware came from, nor how many users it could have infected. . It is suspected however that it was only a test to give another feature to the idea, since those presented are basically harmless.
The discovery also raised a new problem for the community: that hackers can use social networks to spread malware, even if the network itself is not infected or transmits malicious software through it -even.
The account used for this practice was @ b0mb3rman, which was banned by Twitter as soon as Trend Micro notified the social network of this problem. This is not the first time that the social network has a problem like this: in 2009, the platform was used to send commands to a bot that infected users' computers. Two years ago, the Android malware program was using a Twitter account. as a gateway to infect users' computers. In both cases, Twitter has excluded malicious accounts from its platform.
