Tests on dead monkeys in the Paraná coast of Antonina confirmed the existence of the yellow fever virus in the Paraná territory. Laboratories Lacen and Fiocruz-PR examined the material collected two days ago by technicians from the Environmental Monitoring Service of the State Department of Health of the locality of Mato Queimado.
The Secretariat was already on alert and taking all necessary measures, as the region with the state of São Paulo, where twelve cases of yellow fever were reported in humans, including six deaths. There, 32 cases are under investigation. Paraná, however, has not yet reported any cases of disease in humans.
The Department of Health insists on the need to intensify the vaccine, available throughout the state. All persons must be vaccinated between 9 and 59 years, 11 months and 29 days and have never taken a dose of the vaccine.
The vaccine is the only way to prevent yellow fever.
