RIO – Vale's president, Fábio Schvartsman, said Friday afternoon at the company's headquarters in Rio, that he had gone straight to where the company was heading. accident had occurred, the rupture of the dam of Mine do Feijão, in Brumadinho, as soon as the weather opens. It's raining heavily in the city this Friday. Three years after Mariana's accident, it was asked Schvartsman if the company had learned the lessons of the previous disaster.

– How can I say that we learned (after the accident of Mariana) if such an accident occurred? What I can say is what we did after the accident. We have returned all the roadblocks and engaged the best audits in the world to check their status. We have made every effort to ensure security and stability. The fact is that we do not know what happened and what caused it, but we will certainly know it.

The executive said that there were to be many casualties on the scene and that the company was planning to conduct a quick investigation and thorough on the episode.

– Let's save and care for people and do everything in our power to deal with this unimaginable situation. We still do not know the number of victims. The area is very difficult to access and very far away. There were a lot of Vale employees right now. Unfortunately, there must be many victims.

The Vale president regretted the new accident and said his concern is currently with the rescue.

– There was a major leak and there are certainly people affected, we do not yet know the magnitude, we do not know the cause. What I want to share is our dismay and our sorrow for what happened. No words can explain the pain I feel about what has been done to the victims, if they exist. I have just returned from Switzerland now. And now, as soon as the weather permits, I will have a plane and I will go to the place where I will look for help. My concern and that of Vale as a whole will be worrying for the victims.

Schvartsman stated that the site of the accident was a stable dam, considered normal:

– This was a dam of iron ore from the old Fertép. It is a dam that was no longer in operation since 2015. It was being decommissioned, but it was a stable dam with an external report that guaranteed the stability of an abusive normality. We do not know what happened. But I want to ask our sincere apologies for the suffering suffered, whatever the cause. This is unacceptable. Let's do a quick and thorough investigation to find out what happened. And we will take all necessary measures.

Regarding the residues of the current accident, it still does not have many details.

– These are inert waste.
