5G promises to offer mobile phones, laptops and other mobile devices the ability to transfer data at a rate of 5 Gbit / s (Gigabits per second) under ideal conditions. Although maximum speed is not being achieved in most parts of the world, experts believe the 1 Gb / s brand should be widely available to most users.

Current 4G networks reach a maximum of 100 Mb / s (megabits per second), which is ten times less than 5G. Meanwhile, the 4.5G reaches up to 200 Mb / s. It is in use in some Brazilian cities.

Implementation in Brazil should take time. In addition to the long term for infrastructure adjustment by operators, there are technical and regulatory hurdles that need to be addressed by the Anatel regulatory agency.

One of the problems is the unavailability of frequencies required by the technology. The 3.5 GHz band in Brazil is currently intended for transmitting signals to satellite dishes. It should be redistributed to free the spectrum for the fifth generation.

Some experiments are going on in the country. The commercial evaluation phase is expected to begin, however, only in 2019. The World Association of Telecommunications Operators (GSMA) estimates that 5G will not actually be broadcast in the region until 2025.
