Hyundai is expected to present a new compact proposal for the SUV segment at this year's edition of the New York Motor Show. Already taken in tests several times, the crossover in question will be positioned under already known models, such as Crete and Kona, to constitute an option to enter the range of utilities of the brand. It will have a length less than 4 meters (a feature that will fit into a special tax regime in India, a key market) and will be equipped with modern turbo engines, both diesel and gasoline.
Known internally by the QXi code, the new SUV could adopt two names: Styx in Asian markets such as India and Leonis in countries such as the United States. In this case, in particular, the model should play the role of the brand's entry car, indirectly replacing the Accent (whose research, as in the case of other compact hatchback vehicles, has considerably decreased in recent years. years). In India, its mission will be to compete with Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV300, as well as certain versions of the Ford Ecosport.
Length limited to 4 meters (as our rivals cited above) is strategic to make the final price more competitive given the reduced perception of taxes in the Indian market. In addition, it should not disrupt performance just above Crete's cousin (4.27 meters) and, in the case of the United States, descending Kona (4.16 meters). Under the hood, 1.2 aspirated engines, 1.0 GDI turbo 120 hp and 1.5 turbodiesel 117 hp.
In Brazil, the launch is not yet confirmed, but it would be interesting for Hyundai to have an SUV under Crete, eventually replacing the HB20X and competing directly with the Honda WR-V. and Caoa Chery Tiggo 2.
