RIO – In an address to Copacabana Synagogue, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called Brazil's President-elect, Jair Bolsonaro, a "myth", causing a chorus among those present. Netanyahu is an example of "patriotism, selflessness, hard work for his people" and recalled that the prime minister is a "captain like me, but with a story that serves as an example to any good citizen" .
Netanyahu and Bolsonaro participated in the synagogue at a Sabbath-keeping ceremony, the name given to the weekly Sabbath in Judaism. Brazil's elected president said Brazil and Israel were a fraternity. He compared the two countries:
– See what they are. And look at Brazil. See what we have and what we do not have.
The elected president also emphasized the ideological affinity between the two governments:
– Like the United States, among many others who think and have an ideology similar to ours, we have everything to help and do good for our people. Minister, thank you for this opportunity and God bless us, "he said.
The ceremony is opened by the rabbi of the Eliezer Stauber synagogue. In his speech, Netanyahu also quoted MP Eduardo Bolsonaro (PSL-SP), son of the president-elect, saying he had a crush on Israel.
