In the United States, health policy is named after a former president, which largely explains how politicians have always divided on this law.

Obamacare was approved in 2010 by Barack Obama. He has always been hailed by the Democratic Party – of Obama – and criticized by Republican – Donald Trump.

A judge did what Republicans have tried many times and failed to overthrow Obamacare.

Federal Judge Reed O. Connor of Texas declared unconstitutional one of the pillars of the law: the obligation for every American to have a health plan. And he said that the rest of the law is inseparable from this pillar and is therefore invalid.

Forcing Americans to take out health insurance and regulate this market has been one of the ways to make diets more affordable in a country without public health. Those who had no plan had to pay a fine.

But in 2017, Congress pbaded a tax reform, sponsored by Trump, which put an end to this fine.

In early 2018, 19 states ruled by Republicans sued Obamacare. They argued that if the fine does not exist, the obligation does not make more sense. The judge agreed.

Another group of states, from the opposition, which has defended Obamacare in court, has already declared that it would appeal. This discussion could stop at the US Supreme Court. Trump's own government has already announced that because of the legal battle, it would not change anything for the moment.

But Trump has already celebrated. On Saturday (15), he said: "It was an excellent decision, if the Supreme Court upholds its position, we will meet the Democrats and put in place a major health policy for our people."
