BRUMADINHO – Two military policemen from Minas Gerais prevented on Sunday the rescue of two cows who, two days ago, agonizam, stuck in the mud of the Feijão stream in Brumadinho (MG).
The animals had already been joined by the Asphalt Angels, a group of volunteer rescuers, forced to abandon them in the middle of the residues. The police claimed the measure was necessary because another dam was likely to break. When asked if the risk was imminent, they replied that it was small.
The rescue was accompanied by emotion by the residents. Silvana Lopes says the animals were dragged from farms in the area by the wave of residues.
The humane protector Luciana Trindade, who managed to bring the animals they were rescued, desperate. She recalled that the Vale mining company did not provide any structure to save the animals. Two days ago, the animals moved in the mud in agony.
The Asphalt Angels were contacted by his group. According to them, there are a lot of animals trapped in the quagmire, among cows, dogs and capybaras. Firefighters have released birds trapped in cages in abandoned houses.
As the rescue attempt had catastrophic consequences, it was difficult to eliminate cows mired in the quagmire. At the end of the day, the animals had to be sacrificed, much to the chagrin of the volunteers.
