Nissan's former president, Carlos Ghosn, will spend the Christmas and New Year holidays in jail, after a Japanese court has decided to extend his detention until January 1st.

"The decision was made to keep (Ghosn) in prison.The detention period will end on January 1," announced the Tokyo District Court in a statement.
The ruling does not mean that Ghosn will be released on January 1, as the prosecution may request an extension of detention for an additional 10 days if he believes the investigation requires the measure.
Ghosn was arrested again on Friday (21), suspected of maneuvering in October 2008 to blame Nissan for a loss of 1.85 billion yen, or US $ 16.6. The charges relate to the fact that Ghosn caused damages to Nissan by depositing a total of $ 14.7 million four times between June 2009 and March 2012 in a bank account.
