"Jayme is the hero of history," says the sheriff of a girl who escaped an abduction

WISCONSIN, USA – Young American Jayme Closs, 13, escaped from captivity where she was held hostage three months ago. Kidnapper Jake Patterson, 21, is also charged with having murdered Jayme's parents – James and Denise Closs – when he kidnapped her. According to Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald, head of investigations, Jayme herself is the heroine of her story because she helped resolve the case.

Sheriff Fitzgerald praises the young woman's "desire to live." Jayme escaped from the rural home where she had been held captive in the town of Gordon, about 100 km from her home in Barron, Wisconsin. The kidnapper was not on the scene when she managed to escape, said the sheriff. Jayme spoke to investigators Friday after spending the night of Thursday in a hospital doing medical badessments.

"The survival instinct that drives this girl is amazing," said Sheriff Fitzgerald.

Jayme is now reunited with her family, in the house of her aunt and godmother, Jennifer Smith, where is also her dog, Molly. Thousands of volunteers and hundreds of security guards searched the small town of Barron, where Jayme lived with his parents. On October 15, in the first scene of the crime, the police found the door of the family home broken by shots on the door handle and the couple was shot dead. It was at this point that Jayme was found missing. Authorities offered a $ 50,000 reward for any information that could help find the teenager.

The kidnapper Jake Patterson, 21, planned the crime meticulously. He even shaved his head until he was bald so as to avoid leaving marks on the scene, said Sheriff Fitzgerald.

– The target was Jayme, the agent said. – The suspect had specific intent to kidnap Jayme and invested efforts in the preparation of the crime.

A kidnapper was caught chasing the girl

Less than 15 minutes after Jayme informed the authorities, her abductor was arrested on the basis of the description she had given of her vehicle.

– The suspect was driving in the streets looking for him when police officers made contact. – Sheriff Fitzgerald said at the press conference that the police did not have any other suspects in this case.

The police are now trying to figure out what led Patterson to go into captivity – look at Jayme, who claims to have never seen him before.
