The investigation on Aécio Neves investigates alleged irregularities committed to Furnas, subsidiary of Eletrobras, in Minas Gerais. The case was a discovery of Operation Lava Jet.
The Attorney General's Office had requested that the case be referred to the Federal Court of Minas Gerais, but Minister Gilmar Mendes decided to close the file. In the decision, Gilmar Mendes reported that the federal police requested the closure of the case given the lack of evidence of the existence of an offense.
According to him, the prosecution remained more than two months with the case for badysis and returned without conclusive demonstration. In a note, the defense stated that the decision upheld the federal police's finding that Senator Aécio Neves had not been deemed illegal.
Another investigated investigation investigates Senator PT Jorge Viana. He was suspected of having donated 2 million dollars to his brother Tião Viana's campaign for the Acre government in 2010.
